Batista de Carvalho<\/strong> (janeiro de 1961, Coimbra, Portugal) licenciou-se (Hons) pelo Departamento de Qu\u00edmica da Faculdade de Ci\u00eancias e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra (1984) e doutorou-se em Qu\u00edmica, especialidade F\u00edsico-Qu\u00edmica, pela Faculdade de Ci\u00eancias da Universidade de Lisboa (1993). Atualmente \u00e9 professor associado do Departamento de Qu\u00edmica da Universidade de Coimbra e coordenador da Unidade de I&amp;D Qu\u00edmica-F\u00edsica Molecular.<br \/>\nAo longo da sua carreira tem desenvolvido diversos projetos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica, em colabora\u00e7\u00e3o com grupos nacionais e internacionais, nas \u00e1reas da Qu\u00edmica Medicinal, Tecnologia Farmac\u00eautica e Qu\u00edmica\/Antropologia Forense com especial \u00eanfase na aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de t\u00e9cnicas espectrosc\u00f3picas: i) \u00e0 an\u00e1lise estrutural de compostos de interesse biol\u00f3gico; ii) ao desenvolvimento de novos agentes anticancer\u00edgenos contendo Pt e Pd (em particular, \u00e0 determina\u00e7\u00e3o de novos alvos terap\u00eauticos de forma a otimizar a efic\u00e1cia e minimizar os efeitos secund\u00e1rios e a resist\u00eancia adquirida); iii) ao estudo das intera\u00e7\u00f5es f\u00e1rmaco\/c\u00e9lula em sistemas modelo (linhas celulares cancer\u00edgenas) com vista \u00e0 compreens\u00e3o dos mecanismos moleculares subjacentes \u00e0 atividade citot\u00f3xica; e iv) \u00e0 an\u00e1lise das altera\u00e7\u00f5es induzidas por processos de queima em esqueletos humanos. Tem utilizado preferencialmente espetroscopia vibracional, \u00f3ptica e com neutr\u00f5es, incluindo espetroscopia microRaman e FTIR com radia\u00e7\u00e3o de sincrotr\u00e3o.<br \/>\nRecentemente, e em conjuga\u00e7\u00e3o com os temas acima mencionados que continua a desenvolver, iniciou um projeto de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o que visa aplicar t\u00e9cnicas de espetroscopia vibracional ao diagn\u00f3stico precoce do cancro e \u00e0 determina\u00e7\u00e3o rigorosa de margens cir\u00fargicas (na remo\u00e7\u00e3o de tumores malignos).
