Maria Paula Marques

Maria Paula MarquesFRSC, doutorada em Bioquímica (especialidade Química Bioinorgânica) pela Universidade de Coimbra, é elemento da Unidade “Química-Física Molecular” desde 1995 e professora auxiliar com agregação do Departamento de Ciências da Vida da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra.
Desenvolve actividade de investigação na área da Química Medicinal, no desenvolvimento de novos agentes quimioterapêuticos – fármacos anticancerígenos de platina e paládio – e quimiopreventivos – compostos fitoquímicos antioxidantes presentes na dieta. As principais técnicas que utiliza são a espectroscopia vibracional (óptica e de neutrões), nomeadamente microRaman e microFTIR, associada a simulações teóricas assim como a métodos de biologia celular e molecular. Possui diversas colaborações científicas com laboratórios internacionais, entre os quais a ISIS Neutron and Muon Source e a Diamond Light Source, do Science and Technology Facilities Council, o Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (Reino Unido) e o Instituto de Tecnologia de Dublin (Irlanda). É atualmente líder do projecto de I&D BioIMPACT/Impacto Bioquímico de Agentes Anticancerígenos de Platina e Paládio financiado pela FCT.
Como professora auxiliar de nomeação definitiva, lecciona disciplinas nas áreas de Espectroscopia, Bioquímica e Desenvolvimento de Fármacos no âmbito das licenciaturas em Química, Bioquímica, Biologia e Engenharia Biomédica, dos Mestrados em Bioquímica, Biologia Celular e Molecular, e Investigação Biomédica e ainda dos Cursos de Doutoramento MedChemTrain e CATSUS.
É elemento ativo do consórcio científico CLIRSPECThe International Society for Clinical Spectroscopy, Clinical Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy for Medical Diagnosis, e delegada nacional e membro do Conselho Científico da Ação COST Raman4Clinics – Raman-based Applications for Clinical Diagnostics (COST-BM1401 da European Science Foundation). Pertence ainda aos Conselhos Científicos da European Conference on the Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules (ECSBM) e do Congresso Ibérico de Espetroscopia (CIE), e à Comissão de Aconselhamento da Graduate School of Analytical Sciences Adlershof (SALSA, Humboldt University-Berlim, Alemanha). É membro das Sociedades Portuguesas de Química, Bioquímica e Farmacologia, e fellow da Royal Society of Chemistry (Reino Unido).
